#1 - First Mr. Conroy song with a co-writer
The is the first and only so far Mr. Conroy song with a writer in addition to Remi. Music and lyrics are by Remi Thomsen and the late Rasmussen Rasmussen.
#2 - Written all the way back in 1996
The song was written in one sitting in 1996 when Remi and Rasmus were 15 and 16 year old. It was one of two songs that were written by Remi and Rasmus in 1996, the other being "Open up" which has been published by the band Claiborne in 1998.
#3 - Fourth verse especially sensitive
The lyrics are bout the feeling of meaninglessness. As Remi recalls Rasmus came up with the fourth verse that after his death is beleived to express Rasmus' early thoughts about ending his life: "With or without my feet on the ground/this world will keep on spinning around and around..."
#4 - Only Remi and Jens play on the song
There is no bass or drums on the song. A guitar was added after the studio playing what the band calles whale-ish, the soft chords in the chorus.
#5 - Originally a metal song
When the song was recorded in early 1997 with Remi on drums and vocals, Jens on guitar and Rasmus Rasmussen on bass, it was in a uptempo heavy metal version that sound very different from the Mr. Conroy version
VERSE 1
It's all behind
and now I need a change
because I can see
my hands empty
VERSE 2
I don't know
what I am trying to find
then who should know
It's all wrong
CHORUS
Here I am just walking around
by myself, I'm heading nowhere
Closer, closer, these steps I take
once had goals and records to break
VERSE 3
I can't go on
and I am not going back
I lay down right here
...not going back
CHORUS
Here I am just walking around
by myself, I'm heading nowhere
Closer, closer, these steps I take
once had goals and records to break
The only thing that still matter to me
is what's going inside my memory
I tried to adapt, God know I have tried
but is still didn't seem to work out
VERSE 4
With or without
my feet on the ground
this world will keep on
spinning around and around...
CHORUS
Around and around and around and around
and around and around and around
Around and around and around and around
and around and around and around
Here I am just walking around
by myself, I'm heading nowhere
Closer, closer, these steps I take
once had goals and records to break
