FEAR OF ABANDONMENT
The turning is about fear of being abandoned by the ones you love. I guess it is a pretty common thing to fear and write a song about (laughs)
NOW A BAND FAVORITE
It is just one of those songs that on paper may not be the best in the world, but after recording it, it really grew on us. It just shows that the execution can ad significantly to the songwriting
ORIGINALLY NOT INCLUDED
The song was originally not picked for our debut album. When another song was pulled just before forming Mr. Conroy, "The turning" was brought in. A form of wildcard on the album
RECORD NO. OF GUITAR TRACKS
Even though the piano is the leading instrument on the song, the number of guitar tracks exceeds the number of tracks used for drums recording the drums. How can less be more?
METALLICA REFERENCE
The line so I won't fade to black is a direct reference to one of the greatest power ballads ever, namely "Fade to black" by Metallica
THE VIDEO IS A WORDPLAY
The video shows a man hugging - in this case an animal, which is fighting back...and turning. It is quite a stretch, but in some strange way, I think the video supplements the song very well
